Damiana G. Otoiu is a Lecturer in Political and Urban Anthropology in the Department of Political Science at the University of Bucharest. She is a Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Political Life (CEVIPOL), Université Libre de Bruxelles. She has contributed chapters for books such as the Encyclopedia of Transitional Justice (2012), Evicting the Ghost: Architecture of Survival (2010), Remembering, Forgetting and City Builders (2010), The Socialist Transformation: Policies of the Communist Regime between Ideology and Administration (2009) and Movements, Migrants, Marginalisation: Challenges of societal and political participation in Eastern Europe and the Enlarged EU (2007). She is the recipient of the Marie Curie Visiting Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Halle), Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Public Policy Scholarship, Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen Robert Bosch Junior Visiting Fellowship, and the London School of Economics and Political Science Visiting Fellowship. Her articles have appeared in New Europe College Yearbook, Options Méditerannéenes, Art History & Criticism, Transitions et sociétés and Studia Politica: Romanian Political Science Review. Dr. Otoiu is a member of The Research Network for Postsocialist Cultural Studies of the American Anthropological Association (SOYUZ), the Standing Group on South East Europe of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) and was the Vice President (2009-11) and an Executive Committee member (2005-11) of the International Association for South-East European Anthropology (InASEA).

Dr. Otoiu was educated at University of Bucharest (B.A. & M.A.) and Université Libre de Bruxelles (Ph.D.)
